The fourth EFP Research Forum took place in Espoo on 18-19 November. The biannual event collects the industry professionals and researchers in one place to discuss the most topical research results and share insights into their work. The aim is to increase collaboration within the EFP program, and advance peer-learning and knowledge exchange between partners.

One of the central topics arising in this Research Forum was the different fiber qualities across product segments and their significance in industrialization of research results. This was followed by research presentations on evaluation parameters for EFP processes and collaborative group work sessions aimed at shaping future industrial processes. Previous forums have emphasized that research ambition should not be limited by today’s challenges—and this topic was no exception.

This time the event took place in Espoo, Finland, and the program researchers and their supervisors also had a chance to visit UPM Kymi.  UPM Kymi mill is producing bleached softwood and birch pulps as well as coated and uncoated fine and specialty papers. The visitors had an opportunity to learn, how things are done at the industry benchmark.

Nearly 70 researchers and industry experts drove the success of the Research Forum by actively engaging in discussions and sharing their latest research findings. The EFP program sets an ambitious goal: to transform the pulping industry through groundbreaking research. Achieving this vision depends on strong collaboration across the entire network.
